the 4 Dutchies

Since the end of February a new gang came into Melbourne, the 4 Dutchies, (Merel, Liesbeth, Maaike and I). We did our first trip together to Sydney. And this is the result of 4 girls with 4 camera's ;)

We were there for 3 days and stayed at a very nice hostel in the Rocks where we had the view of the Oprah and the Harbour bridge. We took it easy the first day and did a little bit of sight seeing and had lunch at the Oprah next to the water. The next day Liesbeth went to the Blue Mountains and Merel, Maaike and I took the ferry to Manly beach to work on our tan, because we hadn't seen sun for a while in Melbourne. The last day we couldn't resist being a real tourist and we took the hop on hop off bus to Bondi and through the city. This was a pretty dangerous activity, we were sitting on the roof and we had to duck for our lives, the branches of the tree were too low, if we wouldn't duck, our heads would be cut off. So every 5 minutes mother Merel was saying, duckduck!

We had a nice long weekend with Easter, so we took advantage of the public holidays, went out, had a lovely Easter breakfast with Pancakes and Noodles and took Maaikes car to visit Walhalla.

Maaike had a car from her work so we decided to do a nice little road trip with the Dutch gang. Because of the funny name and its reputation we decided to go to Walhalla. It is about 2 hours driving from Melbourne and had a huge population of 9 residents in this little mining town. We had a nice lunch with a huge burger and fries. After that we took a little sight seeing train to Thompson station through "Happy Creek".

The 30th of April the Dutch Queen had her B'day, well actually the mother of the Queen. We celebrated that in Melbourne as well. Saturday evening we had the "Queens night", dressed up in Orange we went to the Belgium Beer Garden to party with a lot of Dutch people. The Sunday was the real festival to celebrate our Queen. We danced the polonaise;), ate "patatje oorlog", "kroketten", "warme stroopwaffel", and of course "poffertjes".

The 7th of May was the International pillow fight in Melbourne, what a feathers were flying around, and what a fun we had :)

In the mean time there are just 2 Dutchies left :( Merel decided to go to the nice warm and sunny weather in Thailand and Myanmar. Maaike went back to the Netherlands to do her exams. The weekends aren't the same without them!

Melbourne is a city full of culture and street art. I put on my sneakers, packed my camera and went sight seeing in Fitzroy and the CBD. This is the result after a lot of walking and 3 blisters.
